Anyone familiar with Anne of Green Gables likely recalls the time Anne was given permission to host her bosom friend, Diana, for tea at Green Gables while Marilla was away. Although Marilla only meant for it to be a simple affair, and wouldn’t allow Anne to use the best china for her guest, Anne and Diana both treated it as a proper grown-up occasion. Endearingly, they put on their young girl ideas of grown-up manners and elegant conversation, discussing the crops and health of their families, until Anne’s enthusiasm overtook her and she returned to her usual chatterbox ways. Among her particular delights was that Marilla had told her she could serve Diana some of Marilla’s homemade Raspberry Cordial! Just in case you haven’t witnessed the scene for yourself, I won’t spoil the outcome. But do make haste to read the book or watch the movie and discover the “tragical” event for yourself!
